A “rosette” is a decorative design inlaid around the soundhole of an acoustic guitar. Artistically speaking, a rosette is a carved or painted ornament in a radial (circular) arrangement of parts resembling the pattern of open rose petals; hence its use to decorate the circular soundhole of the guitar. A rosette doesn’t impart any significant tonal coloration – its purpose is purely aesthetic.
