We’ve had a lot of questions recently about Roland’s Studio Package Pro so we thought we’d address a number of related issues in a two-part Tech Tip detailing some aspects of its usage. Today we’ll simply explain the nuts and bolts of the Studio Package Pro and tomorrow we’ll get into how you might use it in your studio by way of a short tutorial.
The Studio Package Pro is an all-in-one computer recording solution. It includes the SI-24 Studio Interface, a mixing control surface with eight 24-bit / 96 kHz mic preamps (with individual phantom power), a cross platform PCI audio card for simple connection to a Mac or PC, and digital audio and MIDI sequencing software from Emagic, called Logic RPC Pro.
Aside from 24 stereo tracks of 24/96 recording, Logic RPC Pro includes unlimited MIDI tracks, with notation and scoring, 5.1 surround mixing, level and pan automation, Emagic plug-ins and access to VST plug-ins. Using the SI-24, you can control many of Logic’s mixer functions-including track level and panning, EQ, send levels and plug-in parameters-using real faders and knobs.
The SI-24 Studio Interface controls Logic RPC Pro. Along with its thirteen motorized faders, the SI-24 includes a ton of knobs, buttons, wheels, and even a surround joystick for controlling Logic RPC Pro with the same convenience as a mixing desk. (You also have the same level of complete mixing and editing control for other recording packages with the SI-24, including Cubase SX, Pro Tools LE, and Digital Performer.)
The Studio Package Pro comes with over 20, high-quality Emagic plug-ins. These include insert effects for recording, like dynamics and crystal clear EQ’s; and studio essentials including reverb, chorus and tape delay. Logic RPC Pro also comes with three of Emagic’s most popular soft synths: the ES M, for big monophonic lead synth sounds, the ES P for polyphonic sounds, and the ES E for lush ensemble sounds, like pads and textures.
Tune in tomorrow for a short tutorial about how to take advantage of the soft synths in the Studio Package Pro. Roland is currently offering a $100 rebate offer through August 31, 2003, when you purchase a Studio Package Pro.
