A cymbal found in most drum kits that is generally used for timekeeping and for playing rhythm patterns, in a fashion somewhat similar to a hi-hat cymbal with the exception that a ride cymbal has no pedal for opening and closing. It is a single, suspended cymbal. Standard sizes for ride cymbals range from 18″ to 22″; various thicknesses are available. The diameter and thickness of the cymbal affect its tone and pitch.
