Nord Electro 73 Review
- Reviewed By Matt Adams

Getting started with the Clavia Nord Electro 2 was so fast and easy. I just unpacked it from the box, plugged it in, and was making music within one minute. Everything you need to make or adjust sounds and parameters is instantly available to you on the front of the keyboard. It makes it so easy to get the sound that you are looking for. If you need more overdrive, just grab the overdrive amount knob and turn it to the right. If you want to slow down the tremolo speed on your Rhodes sample, just grab the speed knob and turn it to the left. It is that easy.

The Electro 2 makes an equally great keyboard in the studio as it does on the stage. Vintage gear is all the rage right now. However, vintage keyboards weigh a ton, are hard to transport, and require a lot of TLC. The Electro 2 takes literally a truckload of vintage keyboards and packs them into a 20-pound unit. The Electro 2 is basically two synths in one. You get a modeled tonewheel organ, a multi-sampled Rhodes Mk II Stage Piano, Wurlitzer 200A, Clavinet D6, CP-80 Electric Grand, and an acoustic piano. You also get a CD-ROM that allows you to upload new sounds into one of the 48 different sound locations.

As far as the sounds go, the B3 is killer. Nord went to great lengths to capture the essence of the B3 and it really stands out. You can even hook up an additional MIDI keyboard to give you a second manual just like the real thing. There are full drawbar controls so that you can dial in that B3 tone you love. There is also a Leslie simulator with handy controls that you can toggle while you play and a foot control option that gives you full control of the rotary speed. Close your eyes and you’d swear you were playing a suitcase piano - the Rhodes is spot on!

The effects really add so much to all the sounds. You can dial in anything from a warm chorus to a wah to a vintage-sounding phaser. The tremolo gives you a fat stereo separation that really will stand out in the mix.

All in all, each one of these instruments really stands out. If you are in the market for some high quality electromechanical sounds - this is the unit for you!
