Let's face it, BOSS pedals are always great, but they have really outdone themselves with the RC-20XL. I am a cellist, and it is difficult to layer live strings on the fly. With the RC-20XL, I was able to plug my electric cello right in and play with multiple parts. With the 16 minutes of recording time, I was actually able to play Pachelbel's Canon in D as a solo musician! This pedal is a great addition to any solo musician's pedalboard, or just someone who wants to record and overdub on the fly during a performance. There are a multitude of options for the live performer. You can record, overdub, and even delete if you didn't like that last pass. The kicker is that you can do all of this with your foot! There are 11 phrase selections where you can either save a recording of your own instrument, vocals, drums, or whatever you want. If you catch a case of writers block, import a song that you want to play along with; or you can just pick a riff from the free sound library CD that comes with the RC-20XL. Another feature is the auto-quantize. This means that the phrase you record will always be in tempo, even if you weren't when you recorded it. You can also set the tempo with your foot, which makes time changes extremely easy to do. In short, BOSS did it again. But is anyone really suprised?
