During a recent tracking session, I was looking for a microphone that would capture an acoustic guitar in an extremely natural and uncolored way. A friend of mine strongly recommended that I try out the Earthworks QTC40, so I eagerly gave them a shot. The first thing that captured my attention about this set was the quality of the craftsmanship put into the carrying case. It was made of solid cherry, with a strong spring latch, and was lined with a purple velvety material. The stainless steel mics inside the box looked like surgical devices! I was very excited to try them out. I experimented with many different placements for this mic, and every one sounded amazing. Very smooth, super detailed, and highly musical, the QTC40 accurately captured all of the intricacies of the acoustic guitar track in this session. I strongly encourage any recordist looking for a precision tool to add to their collection to purchase a matched pair of the Earthworks QTC40s!
