Moog Moogerfooger M-105 MuRF Review
- Reviewed By Robert Williams

Ok I admit it, I'm an effects pedalaholic. Anytime there's a new pedal or processor out, I immediately do a comparison/contrast with my current gear to figure out if the new piece does a better job than a piece I own. Most of the time I have exactly what I need and walk away happy. This time is a different story.

The Moogerfooger MF-105 MuRF (Multiple Resonance Filter) is an amazing processor which produces modulation and synth-like effects via filters. It uses high quality analog components based on classic Moog circuits and allows for nearly unlimited real-time control of key parameters via knobs, sliders and CV (Control Voltage) jacks.

Most will use this unit on the floor and activate it via the easy action foot switch, but for true real time interaction this product is best accessed either on a desktop or connected to other Moogerfoogers via the optional Rack Mount shelf and Controller.

On the front surface there are sliders which adjust eight resonant bandpass filters from a unity gain level to attenuation of a db or so. The "Animation" section modulates the levels of the filters in various preset sequences, which the user modifies via the Envelope, Mix and Rate knobs. The results vary from EQ curves to phasing to synth-like step arpegiation to tremolo and distorted non defined madness via the up to 24 step pattern. The Envelope knob determines how smoothly the filters engage and transition, Mix blends the effected and dry levels while Rate adjusts the modulation speed. There are two banks containing 22 total options.

The stereo output is well thought out as the Filter output alternates through the L/R sides depending on the ffrequency band. The following bands are represented: 200 Hz, 300 Hz, 450 Hz, 675 Hz, 1kHz, 1.5 KHz, 2.2 KHz, 3.4KHz. The Drive control is important to note as well ranging from a clean to overdriven to completely distorted signal visually represented by an LED glowing green through red.

I didn't have a chance to get into the four CV jacks on the back which allow the user to interact with Envelope, Mix and LFO via an optional expression pedal(s) in real time. There's also a Tap jack which allows for tempo synching of the rate which works via a standard unlatched switch.

I used this unit on it's own and in combination with other effects for hours over days via my guitars and bass and still haven't truly gotten past the surface. And those who aren't stringed intrumentalists should line up too, this unit will also work well for keyboards, horn players and even on a mixer send. I highly recommend this unit for anyone looking for a slightly different effects flavor than anything else out there today.
