Thanks go out to Bob O’Hanrahan, a metallurgist in Reno, Nevada for this tip. If a metal part on your guitar begins to lose its shine and take on a hazy grey appearance, place a drop of water and a small amount of fluoride toothpaste on a clean, lint-free cloth and gently rub it over the affected area. This should be done as soon as the corrosion is noticed. It will not work for parts that have a great deal of oxydation, up to and including pitting of the metal surface.
