A form of attenuation, the term “power attenuator” or “power
attenuation” usually refers to a device or feature on a tube guitar
amplifier that reduces the actual output volume from the amp’s speaker so that you can drive the tubes into favorable breakup tones at more manageable, recordable volume levels. This is often achieved
through resistive dummy loads.
