In an effort to make quantized MIDI tracks sound more “real” and “natural,” many sequencers and MIDI creation programs include a “humanize” feature. The humanize function introduces minor, random variations to the timing, duration, velocity, or other MIDI parameters to simulate the effects of the instrument being performed by a live performer. Though humanizing isn’t as effective as a live performer, it can produce results that are more natural-sounding than if the tracks were rigidly quantized.
