23 Brook Street, a flat rented by Jimi Hendrix in the late 1960s, has long been on the list of places rock fans have wanted wanted to visit. Now, thanks to a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund, the flat will be restored to its 1968 state and will become a museum dedicated to Hendrix and his work.
Interestingly, 25 Brook Street — right next door — also hosted a major musical genius, Georg Frederich Handel (a few years earlier, in the mid-1700s). In fact, Handel lived there for 40 years, and died in his bedroom here in 1759. Those rooms became a Handel museum in 2001.
