A case made from wood (often covered with leather, tolex, or vinyl), plastic, or other synthetic material. A hard shell case, as the name implies, has solid, stiff, hard exterior surfaces. The inside is foam or other soft material that cushions the case’s contents. A hard shell case is heavier and bigger than a gig bag, but provides the most protection for the instrument or device it contains.
