Here’s an interesting dichotomy: NARAS (National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences) gives out fewer awards at the annual Grammy show than anyone else, but the sales boost the Grammy winners receive bests any other award show. Clearly the public perceives the Grammy “stamp” as an indicator of quality music, with the Album of the Year receiving the biggest sales boost. Some recent Album of the Year sales increase stats:
- 2012: Adele 21 — 207% post-show sales jump
- 2011: Arcade Fire The Suburbs — 238%
- 2010: Taylor Swift Fearless — 58%
- 2009: Plant/Krauss Raising Sand — 715%
- 2008: Herbie Hancock River: The Joni Letters — 967%
- 2007: The Dixie Chicks Taking the Long Way — 714%
- 2006: U2 How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb — 512%
