Q: “I have a Digi 002. In the Hardware Setups window of the Pro Tools software, the Optical port says it’s off. It says: RCA = S/PDIF, Optical = Off. Why has that happened?”

A: In Pro Tools LE with the Digi 002 or Digi 002 Rack, if you are looking in the Hardware Setups window (Setups menu > Hardware Setups) and it says RCA = S/PDIF, Optical = Off, that’s because the sample rate of your Pro Tools session is at 96kHz. The Optical standard doesn’t go to 96k, only to 44.1k or 48k. Therefore, you must have a Pro Tools session with a sample rate of 44.1k or 48k to use this port.

Important note: Your Pro Tools session sample rate must match the sample rate of your external digital device (ie. ADAT). If the ADAT sample rate is at 48k, then your Pro Tools session sample rate must also be at 48k. If the ADAT sample rate is at 44.1k, then your Pro Tools session sample rate must also be at 44.1k.

Launch a new Pro Tools session at 44.1k or 48k, then go back to the Hardware Setups window (Setups menu > Hardware Setups), now you can choose RCA = S/PDIF, Optical = ADAT.
