Difference Between a Surge Suppressor or Voltage Regulator?

Sweetwater Tech Tip Check out the complete archiveClick here »

Q: What’s the difference between a surge suppressor and a voltage regulator?

A: A surge suppressor blocks or shunts high voltage spikes in the AC power line in order to protect sensitive electronic components.

A voltage regulator takes incoming AC voltage and stabilizes it, which can provide significantly improved and more reliable performance from an audio or video system.
