AES59

A standard created by the Audio Engineering Society (AES) regarding wiring 25-pin D-Sub connectors for multi-channel balanced analog connection or for multi-channel AES/EBU-format digital connection. There are two predominant D-Sub wiring schemes in use, TASCAM pinout (used by TASCAM, Avid, Universal Audio, RME, and others) and Yamaha pinout (used by Apogee, Mackie, Lynx, SSL, and others). Unfortunately, the two are not pin-for-pin compatible. The standard utilizes the TASCAM pinout. The standard also specifies 4/40 thread “jack screws,” which are used to secure cable connectors to gear/chassis connectors.

AES59 hopes to standardize D-Sub pinouts for greater and easier compatibility between devices.
