Guitar of the Day
Anyone who saw the movie Let It Be will immediately recognize the unique custom-made rosewood Telecaster, which was presented to George Harrison by Fender. It was all over The Beatles' movie and was prominently featured in the sequence where the group was playing their very last live concert ever on the roof of their London-based Apple Corp building on January 30th of 1970. A courier actually flew from Fender headquarters to London with the guitar strapped into the seat next to him (the company had to actually buy it a 1-way ticket!). Two guitars and necks were built and the best of these were combined to produce the best possible all-rosewood Tele. A similar all-rosewood Strat was planned for Jimi Hendrix, but for some reason, it was never completed. Fender hoped that the appearance of their rosewood Tele in The Beatles' movie would create a huge demand, but by 1972, the guitar vanished from the Fender catalog.
But a guitar this historically important was sure to resurface, and here it is: Our Guitar of the Day, the Fender Custom Shop Rosewood Telecaster Limited Release. It's a striking instruments with its vintage hardware and black 3-ply pickguard over the gorgeous rosewood body. Who knew Rosewood could look so spectacular? A set of '60s Custom Shop Tele pickups deliver the signature Tele sound. Fender chose to keep the electronics just the way they were in 1969 - a smart choice. Unlike almost any Fender ever built, this guitar has a rosewood neck, as well as its body. Fender is offering this spot-on recreation only until December 31st of this year. Beyond that date, the company has no plans to ever offer it again, making this Tele a sure-fire collector's item somewhere down the road.

Just as you must know the alphanumeric code you chose when you got your ATM card, a password protects you and allows you to log into various secure web sites (eBay, for instance) or in the case of Mac OS X, to simply boot up your computer. In some cases, you may get assigned a password by a specific web site, but in most cases, you can change it to something that's easier to remember than, say "SUNOK7XC44."

Stop Breaking Strings, Stay in Tune
If your vibrato-equipped guitar seems to always go out of tune or if a string breaks almost every time you are in the middle of a ferocious solo, the problem is likely at the nut. If the nut is cut just wide enough for each string with no room for it to move once it's in place, the string cannot easily slide back and forth when you are using your vibrato. The problem is worsened if you move up to a slightly heavier string gauge. Where there's a problem, you can bet someone will come up with a solution. Graphite, which is essentially the material in a number 2 pencil, works well as a dry lubricant, allowing the string to slip across the nut, helping to eliminate both string breakage and tuning problems.
