Enter to Win the Complete DigiTech Artist Series Pedal Collection
If you haven't already done so, all you guitar players out there really should enter to win a complete collection of DigiTech Artist Series pedals. Reviewers in all the guitar magazines have unanimously agreed that each of these pedals totally nails the signature sounds of such legendary guitarists as Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix and Brian May. Whether it's the big rotating speaker sound in Clapton's "Badge" or the screaming lead tone of the Hendrix classic, "Voodoo Child," all you have to do is plug in your favorite axe and start playing. DigiTech employed a new proprietary process called Production Modeling to deliver dead-on reproductions of the most famous sounds in rock history. They've modeled not only the amps and speaker cabinets, but also the effects pedals, mics and even the mic placement, not to mention the recording engineer's own special mojo. The collection includes: Eric Clapton Crossroads Jimi Hendrix Experience Brian May Red Special Scott Ian Black-13 Dan Donegan "The Weapon" What's more, we're also tossing in the DigiTech JamMan Looper pedal so you can create seamless loops with infinite overdub possibilities. This whole package is valued at more than $1,450, but it's yours if you're the lucky winner. All you have to do is go to Sweetwater's Giveaway page and answer a few questions correctly (relax, they're easy and using the Internet as a resource is perfectly acceptable), then submit the form and you're officially entered. The winner will be notified on or after November 1st. Be sure to read the fine print (there's always fine print) but most importantly remember: You can't win if you don't enter!

  Guitar of the Day
The 2006 Corvette Z06 is clearly a car that General Motors built to just show off a little. With a sticker price that starts at a whopping $70,000 and a list of optional features that includes an available OnStar Vehicle Diagnostic and Navigation system, a 505-horsepower 7.0 Liter aluminum block engine and an aluminum frame with magnesium engine cradle, it's hardly what you'd call an impulse purchase - well, maybe if you're the CEO of a Fortune 500 company. In any case, the PRS Corvette Standard 22 was designed for the Corvette owner who has everything but a cool guitar finished in the same exact color as his car. That's right, PRS offers this model in the same six colors offered on the 2006 Z06 Corvette, including Victory Red and Velocity Yellow. Don't have a 505-horsepower car? Well, you can still own the Limited Edition PRS Corvette Standard 22 with its carved tropical mahogany body, 25-inch scale length wide-fat mahogany neck with rosewood fingerboard and a special Z06 inlay. The PRS Stoptail is standard, as are PRS 14:1 Phase II low mass locking tuners. The guitar comes with a pair of Dragon II treble and bass pickups with nickel-plated covers, volume and tone controls and a five-way rotary pickup selector. The trademark Corvette crossed flags are inlaid into the body and the clear control knobs allow the guitar's eye-catching colors to show through. Naturally, a deluxe hardshell case is included.

Rosewood
This is a richly hued, brownish wood with darker veining that has long been used by builders of fretted instruments for the fingerboards because of its strength and density. The wooden keys of both marimbas and xylophones may also be made from rosewood. All rosewoods belong to the genus Dalbergia and have a strong, sweet smell which persists over many years, which explains the name. The most cherished of all the rosewoods is Brazilian, which comes from the jacaranda tree. Brazilian rosewood is CITES-listed, and thus almost impossible to obtain, making what supplies still available astronomically expensive.

Accessing Windows Media on a Mac (OS X)
A lot of video (and some audio) files found on the Internet are created by or formatted for the Windows Media Player. Microsoft no longer makes a version for Mac users. So how can you open and view these? There's a free third-party plug-in that works with Apple's QuickTime that allows Mac owners to open Windows Media files. It's called Flip4Mac WMV and it's available at Microsoft's website.

This will allow you to open most WMV and WMA format audio and video files up to version 9 of Windows Media. There is currently no support for Windows Media 10, but with QuickTime quickly becoming the industry standard, that's probably not a problem. Flip4Mac WMV requires OS X 10.3.9 or higher and QuickTime 6.5 or higher.
