Welcome to Guitars & Gear
Imagine what it would have been like to be a fly on the wall during recording sessions with The Beatles, Jeff Beck, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Supertramp, the Dixie Dregs, Elton John, and David Bowie (with Mick Ronson). How cool would that would have been? To take it one step further, imagine what it must be like to be Ken Scott, the man who was the engineer and/or producer on all those classic sessions and many, many more. The things he's seen!
While we can't pop into a time machine and head back to the '60s and '70s to witness the making of those amazing albums, we can do the next best thing. We can pick Ken's brain and find out how he approached recording all those amazing guitarists. My interview with Ken in this issue is filled with useful information that's sure to help your recordings sound better.
Speaking of helping you sound better, this issue of Guitars & Gear is, as usual, packed with information, from the conclusion of our 2-part series on rebuilding a Les Paul to another scale workout that's sure to crank up your technique, plus a review of a metronome that will take your practicing to the next level. A metronome? You better believe it — and you WON'T believe everything this one can do!
Enjoy Guitars & Gear!

REVIEW:
Boss DB-90
As a musician, you need a metronome. It's a fact of life. Personally, I've had a simple, basic metronome that I picked up years ago while I was in grad school studying music composition, with classical guitar as my instrument.

TECHNIQUE:
1-string Scales
As guitarists, many of us have a tendency to play scale and melodic passages across the neck, from the lower strings to the high strings. It's perfectly understandable, since many of the scales we're taught, such as the standard blues box, are laid out across the fingerboard.
