need small mixer with direct outs

Can anyone suggest a reasonably priced small mixer that has direct outs so I could have a personal mixer of my drum kit (or small band) that could send pre-fader signals for each channel to a multitrack recorder or main board for live show. Thanks.

Makie's Onyx and 1642/1604 VLZ Pro mixers have direct outs as do Soundcraft's M-Series and Folio FX16 mixers (pre/post switchable, nice) as well.

    Ted:
The VLZ's aren't pre fader or preEQ unless internally mod'd.

Oops, sorry about that, I overlooked the part about them needing to be pre-fader. Thanks for pointing that out.

Thanks for the info. I also saw on this forum that you could plug into insert plug on a channel to the first click and tap that signal as a direct out. I tried it and it works. Does anyone know the level of that signal - ie would I still need to boost that to get to recording level? -- Steve

It's line level, however, because the plug isn't inserted completely into the jack, that is not the most dependable method as the slightest movement can break the connection.
A better method for this is to make a special cable to use on the insert. Remember, however, use of the insert as your recording tap means you get completely dry signal. No EQ.
If you want to go the Pre EQ route, the Mackie Onyx with the FireWire option would be more dependable.

Behringer Eurorack UB2442FX-PRO- that has direct outs and is cheap. Sweetwater doesn't carry Behringer though...

    Really???

The inserts on our little 1202's (at least the first four channels) are pre fade and eq. Unless someone's gotten in their at night and modded something?!?

The inserts are pre fade and EQ. It's the direct outs we were talking about, which the 1202 doesn't have.

Studiolive1604. Analog direct outs (dunno the pickoff point) and direct to computer via FireWire. Or wait for the Baby X32 to come out.
