    ProTools Error 9073

"Your disk may be too slow or too fragmented: -9019 error message during playback of Pro Tools on a Mac in OS 9 when using a FireWire drive. (Possibility of producing a -9060 or -9073 error message as well.)"

After two years of working without problems, now this is what happen.

Things I did: I defragmented the hard drive. - Bad thing to do I guess.

I have a Pentium 4, 2.6 Ghz, 1 Gig Ram, two hard drives, I believe I have a good system.

THE QUESTION IS? WHAT DO I DO NOW??????? I have tried: changing settings in the playback engine. No luck. Re-Installing Protools: No luck,

I don't know what else to do? can you help me?!!

Is defragmentation the cause why all of this happen?
If so, What can I do now?

    Help me please?

How large is your audio drive, and how full is it? Have you run some sort of hardware diagnostic on the drive? If your drive is slowing down due to an upcoming failure, it may cause these problems. Could be bad sectors causing problems. Defragging the drive should be a good thing, but again, if there were bad sectors it tried to repair unsucessfully it could cause issues. I would go find a good deal on a new drive (they are cheap these days) and see if it helps. I am assuming that you are using one for programs and one for audio? Someone else may have other ideas, but I would go the new hard drive route myself.

This is on a PC right?

Enable SMART monitoring on the drive and check the health monitor on bootup or in your BIOS. See if it detects a problem or upcoming failure.

Then try running the disk check tools from windows. You might want to do a surface scan.

I'd definetly recommend getting everything you can off that drive ASAP. That way you can run repair utilities or do a quick format without losing data.

I'd say Steve is probably right, I don't run OS9 software, but I know when a PC gives that error, it's more than likely going to fail. Save your data while you can, then format said drive, and HOPEFULLY it should stable up. If upon format you get errors, get a new one, it's fudged.

    protools error 9073. Help me.

Hello, I've been reading the solutions.
I'm convinced the computer is OK. I even got a seperate HD thinking that was the problem.

I get the error when I record guitar.

I have half a dozen or more MIDI tracks playing back fine, but when I try to record
an audio track, it records it, but then i get the error when i try to playback.

I FOUND the lost guitar tracks. i found them as wav files that played on the windows media player.

As you can tell, I'm just starting. I have a dual core 2.5 gig processor. 250 g hd. and another seagate 500 hd.

I AM running 64 bit Win XP pro. This isn't recommended, I know. Neither is using a USB external HD. Does that matter that much, really?

    Any help is appreciated.

Recording to an external audio drive is probably not the problem. If you did make the purchase from Sweetwater we do offer free lifetime technical support via phone @ 800-222-4700 x6400. If not there are a variety of other possibilities and they are covered in our online database.
