    GR-33 as a synth controller

Ihave a GR-33 and I want to control synth
patches on a rackmount synth. Does anyone
know If that is possible? Until now the GR
was fine, but I want to expand the sounds
available with a synth. I'm thinking of a
    Fantom XR.
    Thanks JJ

I have the Roland GR-20 model...which sould have the same midi in/out capibilities. I can send out a six channel signal (a different one for each string), or all six to a single channel. That gives you a pretty good layering potential. I use mine with my keyboard (Casio wk-3000), sometimes. The GR-20 controls the volume on the external device, but switching patches on the GR-20 also switches the instrument on the external device. I just use my 'registry' buttons on the Casio, to set the patches...after setting the GR-20.
A neat side event, I can control the 'rhythm' section of the keyboard...inputing chord changes from my guitar....that also set the chord playing on the Casio.
