i have a desktop pc that is a few years old (5+). it all works fine for me but recently my graphics card malfunctioned and needs replacing. i'm finding it all a bit complicated trying to trawl through all the options and was hoping to get some advice. i don't play any games so just need something relatively low-end that will be able to run logic (last pc version) and reason.
i'm running windows xp.
my motherboard is an asus a8n-e.
my malfunctioned card is a radeon x1300 pro (512mb ddr2+dvi-i+tv pci express)
i just want a basic inexpensive replacement, possibly with lower specs as i don't do anything too demanding graphically.
i have a pcie slot. i understand there are faster connections available and that 2.1 wouldn't work for me but 2.0 is backwards compatible.
an update on this, i've just replaced my graphics card with one of a very similaqr spec and i'm having the same problem. on bootup i get one long beep and three short beeps. i have an award bios and found out that this sequence means the problem is with the graphics card, either poorly seated or faulty.
this is a working graphics card and it's still happening. does anybody have any other ideas of what the problem might be?
You are at an audio forum asking about a non-audio problem. There are many sites devoted to OS, malware, and hardware problems. I don't know if any can help you but there may be a better place than here to seek help with your particular problem. Just a 'for instance' http://www.pchell.com/index.shtml
