HELP with JBL PRX535 and PRX518S and EQing room

I work in a bar that holds about 150 people max. We are using JBL PRX535 mains and PRX518s subs. The FOH console is a Allen Heath Mix Wizard 16/2. Currently the JBL PRX subs are lined in with the PRX535 mains on each side. I want to run the PRX subs independently from the PRX535's. Can and (would it be better) to run them like that? Currently I don't get very much low end from the subs the way they are wired right now. The bands I mix are mostly rock cover bands. Also I have 2 30 band EQ's for the mains. Would I EQ the room like any other room? The stage is very small ( 12'w x 6'd) on a 6" raised from the floor. The ceiling is about 7 feet high. A few weeks ago I used my RTA and put a mic downstage center and put all the EQ's in the middle to start EQing. I put the main channel above unity and took the mic channel up till feedback. The thing is after doing all of this most of the EQ from 70hz to 4k are pulled out (however when EQing the room I was cranking the mains and the individual channel to create feedback. I would never turn the mains up this loud while mixing a band). Should I still have done it this way at the bar? If you need to know more info from me please let me know and thank you for helping me out. I just want to get the most out of this sound system.

An RTA is a good tool for spotting feedback when it's happening but a terrible tool for setting up speaker processing.

Those are decent enough speakers that you should be getting pretty good sound right away if they are hooked up correctly. I'm not sure what "subs are lined in with the mains" means. You should be running your signal into the subs and then out to the mains, with the XOVER button on the subs IN. Set the levels to 12:00 to start, then trim the subs up or down a little as needed.

When I wrote the subs are lined in with the mains, I meant to say that the XLR line goes into the sub out of the sub into the PRX535 main speaker. I was thinking of running the sub (PRX518s) independently from the main so I would have control of the sub by itself.

That sounds correct. Make sure the XOVER switch is IN.

Then you will need a separate crossover and more cables. You already have independent control of the levels. I'm not convinced an outboard crossover will offer much benefit. Those are good speakers and should sound fine with the signal looped through the sub with little or no other processing. If they don't then the problem is most likely elsewhere in the system.

No xover needed. I reconfigured the EQ.
