Hey Folks,
I'm looking for a solid drum set for recording. I've got a fair amount of money to spend, but I'd still like something that's pretty versatile for recording different styles, to be economical. Any ideas? Thanks!

I would recommend a Pearl Session Custom. At the studio where I work, Sanctum Sound, we use this kit for a lot of different recordings, and it sounds great! Not too expensive, and it's a solid, durable instrument. That's my top choice. Good luck!
Honestly there are a lot of high end kits that you could probably get on Craig's List. Best bet is just to try them out. Also, DO NOT skimp on drum heads. New nice drum heads will make your drums sound 10x better. You must also know how to tune them or have a friend that does. Then you can just touch them up. I like Yamaha. Recording custom, maple custom, oak custom. All are awesome and versatile kits. Unfortunately I don't have the money to buy one now.
I had a big maple kit, sold that and went with a Gretch Catalina kit with
Slingerland Radio king, and some extra toms, (Pearl and Rogers).
The 18" kick works for a lot of genres. Just about any kit can sound good if you
don't go cheap on the heads and tune them properly.
