    Voice-Overs Processors

    Hi Peoples

I wanted to get some ideas on this right now I am looking at buying me a Vocal processor that will give me a (Ballies) voice or even a nice punch. I have been looking at the Avalon VT-737spTube Microphone / Instrument Preamplifier, Opto-compressor, and Sweep Equalizer. Suggestions?

What is the best gear to use to get that deep voice or punch I do know it depends on the micrphone but in this case im talking about processor for now.

    thanks

I bought a used Symetrix 528e for $75 that is now my main go-to unit for voice over work.

It may not make a thin voice sound deep and thick, but it has very usable de-essing, compression, and EQ. AND it's very clean.

yes, the avalon would be a great choice
but the price is pretty high

maybe a dbx 160a compressor/limiter will work for you.
although a pre amplifier it is not, you would need a pre amp.

dbx 376 Tube Channel Strip would work too for 1/4 the price

Focusrite Voicemaster PRO Voice is a nice unit.

if you would like to do some more research

    google "channel strip"

    hope this helps

also, a large diaphram condenser microphone is a great choice for a microphone.

since you seem to have a 2k+ budget, it might be worth it to purchase a middle of the road channel strip and then get a couple of different microphones.

    a dynamic EV RE20
    a Studio Projects CS5
    a Bock Audio 195
    a Shure SM27

    are all wonderful microphones..

It is a wise idea to get a quality studio mic, we went through about three cheapo mics and still have not learned, but then again we don't have a large budget so we get what we can afford. We have a MXL 440 now, which works alright but does not offer the best sound quality.
