Question No output at all from FW1814 on a new Mac!

    Hi everybody!
I'm new to this forum so be gentle!

I recently bought a M-Audio FW1814 along with a Macbook Pro. (Finally switched)

But after having installed the soundcard according to the manual with the newest OSX 10.5.2 beta drivers from M-Audios homepage I still cannot get just ONE sound out of the box!

I haven't gotten around testing it with Cubase yet, but as I'm also interested in using the FW1814 for more simpler tasks, I'm imagining, that using it with e.g. quicktime or Garageband would matter no different? There is no sound coming from the darn box to my monitors!

I can see the the activity in the 'software return bus' in the M-Audio software, so the system must obviously have been set up to use the FW1814 correctly, but NOTHING moves within the 'output' tab. Nor 'headphones', nor 1/2 output. What do I have to do to make it click?

Please ask if my info is unusable!
    Thank in advance!

    /M. Skoett, DK

Okay very weird - I suddenly succeeded in getting sound out of the system - I tried to reboot, but after a few seconds of music (when the system was back online) it disappeared once again!

This can't be normal behaviour! You guys think it's something to do with the beta driver?

I think it's a weird issue with the beta driver. I read on another forum to try going to the hardware tab of the control panel and toggle the digital port selection to adat then back to spdif, and I know some people had to toggle the 1/2 and 3/4 selections on the mixer tab at the bottom of the 1/2 sw rtn column.

    Crap driver I guess!

    Hi!

    Thanks for your reply!
I tried the thing with SPDIF/ADAT back and forth and it seemed to work - I got sound immediately after!

Thanks for your advice - it's surely the driver right? I don't have to be sorry for somekind of malfunction do I?

Shall we be expecting a "real" driver soon? Or will we have to live with this extermely annoying feature?

No idea on a time frame, but the release notes for the beta driver say:

This build has some known issues that we are actively working to solve.
So I don't think you'll have to live with it for too long.
