Basic PT HD system - what's needed?

OK SW guys... time to earn that SE pay! Lol

I want to price out a PT HD system so that I can start putting a timeline to puchase together.
    I need the following:
    8 analog i/o
    8 channels of adat
    Midi i/o
    PCIe cards

    SMPTE ruler
    OMF import/export

    What's needed?

Can you guys break down the different parts/prices?
If there is an Apogee or other companies i/o that can be used in stead of Digi's provide that as an option too.
I plan on using it for mixing and post work. Limited or no composition. Any midi heavy work will be done in Cubase then tracked into PT.
I don't think I need more than 96 stereo tracks.

I think this would help any forum members who want to graduate from LE to HD to get an idea of what a basic system would cost.
I plan on leaving this world the same way I came into it - screaming and covered in someone else's blood!

    Well,

There are 3 flavors of HD: HD1, 2 and 3. Basically it's how many cards you get. HD1 gives you the core DSP card, 2 gives you the core card and 1 extra DSP card, etc. HD1 is listed as $7995 and gives you up to 96 simultaneous audio tracks at 44.1/48 kHz and they go down as the resolution goes up. An 96 I/O runs $1995 and a 192 I/O goes for about $4000. So, not counting plug-ins you're looking at $10,000 for an HD1 system and 1 I/O. That would give you your specs that you are looking for.

Each HD interface has 8 analog I/O's, and an optical port. In additon, Pro Tools does not support S/MUX, so all of your optical ports are ADAT-only and limited to 48 kHz. Pro Tools can make use of any MIDI interfaces in the system, so if you are using a dedicated one now, it will work in HD. Like howie hinted at, the more Accel cards you have, the more TDM plugins you can run. If you really want to go nuts, you can get additional chassies that allow for up to 6 Accel cards.

SO basically and HD1 with a 96i/o and I can use any midi interface. What TDM plugs come with the system?

Also, for the time being, can I use Waves as RTAS with a HD system?

What do the Accel Cards do? Allow more i/o, tracks, TDM plugs?

I don't have a list of plugins handy. Sorry

You can use all existing RTAS plugins on an HD system, but they're still processed natively.

The Accel cards allow more plugins, and also are required if you plan to use more than 2 HD interfaces. You are limited to 2 interfaces per HD card.

Cool about the RTAS - TDM plugs isn't the reason for me getting a PTHD rig - compatibility with dub stages and other studios. As much as I love Nuendo I cannot stand Steinberg who really has no idea what a post application is or isn't and what's needed to do a proper job. Nuendo the Music Application with the Post Sticker on the Box.
