M-Audio ProjectMix I/O - About to return unless.....

Someone helps me fix this problem:

    I have:

    -Intel Core 2 Duo E6600
    -ASUS P5b-E Motherboard
    -Kingston 1GB DDR 800 Mhz
    -WD Raptor 150GB 10,000 RPM
    -Sonar 6/Cubase SX 3

    Problem:

The ProjectMix does not allow me to record without pops and clicks.
Not on the machine I listed above.

Within the software control panel, it allows me to change the ASIO buffer size, ranging from 64 to 2048 values.
I have tried them all. The performance is constant, pops and clicks during playback.

    -Sonar 6
The latency value is non-adjustable at an extremely high 46 ms

    -Cubase Sx 3
The latency is 5ms but still records and plays back pops and clicks.

    Finally.....
What does not make any since is that the thing works fine on my laptop which is a gateway 3522GZ with 512 MB DDR 533, and a Pentium M 1.6 GHz.

One thing I have noticed is that the maker of my laptop's OHCI compliant fireware device is Texas Instrument.

The maker of my dual core pc's firewire is VIA. On MAudio's website there is a list of compatible firewire adapters. Does anyone think that this may be causing the problem?

I dont know about the P5B-E but the P5B-Deluxe uses a TI chip for its built in firewire.
DAWs are like women, you are going to go through a few before you settle on one. :p

Always use a T1 chipset for anything firewire. The Adaptec 4300 is a nice one if you need PCI.
I plan on leaving this world the same way I came into it - screaming and covered in someone else's blood!

TI Firewire chipset and make sure your Windows program is optimized.
