Angry Adobe Audition 2.0 crashing and settings/presets lost

hi, lately ive been having a bit of trouble with adobe audition. i know i need more ram, and im working on it, but money comes slow. with my processor at 3.4 GHz and ram at 512 its kind of frustrating. i end up running mostly off of virtual memory.

anyway, my problem as of late is this: sometimes audition will freeze, in which case ill have to end the program through the task manager. this is normally fine, i can just click resume session the next time i load AA (with the exception of modified files that were unsaved.

this happened to me the other night and frustrated, i ended the program and when i started AA back up, ALL of my plugin presets were GONE. vanished. even the factory presets! now this is very important to me as i had all custom compression, EQ, reverb, vocal effects, etc, etc. presets saved. but now they are gone and i am very frustrated.

anybody know why this would happen?

im guessing something to do with the ini file, but why would it just go blank???

ANY advice is welcome and appreciated. PLEASE try to help me out here. lol id rather not have to reinstall, its hell getting it all to work with my control surface and things all over again. (ive had to do it numerous times and it is NOT fun, adobe can be quite the bitch at times, but i love it nonetheless)

p.s. - also, ive had a visual basic runtime error or something along those lines whenever i try to change setting in preferences and click OK twice. any thoughts on this as well? id like to be able to have "preferences" haha

OH, and sorry but one MORE thing, if its not possible to get my old presets back, would any of you be willing to help me by telling me the numerical setting for each plugin, preferable Multiband Compressor (broadcast preset and a few others), Studio Reverb (the vocal presets), and a couple others, if youre willing ill let you know which ones i need if i can remember.

    Thanks in advance!

Not having upgraded to that version, I don't know how much of my experience applies. Sometimes, when problems occur, the program creates new ini files, generally in different places. The preset might still exist in another copy of the fille. I learned to backup the cool.ini file so that I can easily get things back to where they should be. You might get lucky with a file search.

dj, I've only been using AA2.0 for a few months, but I'd like to help if possible. The first thing is you probably don't have enough memory to run the effects, I've got a gig and sometimes it'll bog down some, which in case I freeze the track I am working on, you can always unfreeze it to change. This seems to keep the Cpu up to par on the program file I'm working on. Studio Reverb shouldn't be putting that much effort on your comp, the Real Reverb's are a cpu hog, as when the warning sign comes up....seen this? As far as numerical setting, I don't even know my own, I just mess with them till I like it...sorry...only thing I can suggest right off is more Ram.

i use audition 2.0 and i have problems when i have wmd and asio drivers working at the same time.

if you are using an interface, you need to disable your internal MOBO sound card.

do this through your system>hardware settings.

    hope this helps
also you should not have background applications running while you use audition.
Start up applications should be non-existent

set up your scratch disk on the drive that your OS is NOT on.
    Enjoy the Silence.....

Contact their tech support and see if they can point you somewhere.
This program has performed an illegal operation and will be terminated. [OK]

bringing back the factory presets is a breeze... your custom presets, now thats another story...

I can email you the files that you need to restore the factory presets. Or you can uninstall/reinstall.

Have you tried to refresh the effects list yet?

as far as the custom ones, I learned a long time ago (think:CEP) the hard way to jot them down in a notebook...

For what it's worth though, I seriously doubt that the ammount of ram is responsible for the disappearing presets.
