    what's up,
Do you not have a manual? Your gonna have to read a little bit. The more you read, the easier it is to do what you want. I ALWAYS learn something new when I read the manual. Also, do you have some type of MIDI keyboard? If not, you can make bass grooves but you'll have to draw notes manually with the mouse. This all done in the EDIT view. Select the track you want whether it be a Subtractor or Malstrom, these have some bass instruments. Now, draw away. This is actually really time consuming so I would look into purchasing a MIDI keyboard. I use the M-Audio oxygen 8. It is off the hook. Its a million times faster to drop the sounds I want. You'll be making bass grooves in seconds. For me, I find it easier to play the groove first and then draw the notes in with the mouse where it sounded good. I don't really do any recording while playing. First, drop your initial drum track and then BUILD on it. Let me know if you need more help or if I helped you out at all. Thanks

Thankx for the feed....I thought I would need a MIDI keyboard....

I was wondering about sequencing patterns, for example the drums.

Could you maybe explain where and how to setup the patterns to play and alternate drum loops?

I think an understanding of how to sequence the drums would really send me on way toward a rapport w/ the program b4 I get the keyboard....

    Thanks guys...

    whats up again crispy,
I'm not really exactly sure what you want to do. SEQUENCING drum patterns. I make all my patterns. I just punch in a drum sound on the REDRUM computer and if sounds good I'll keep it. Then I'll build and build and build. For me, the greatest thing has been all my re-fills and also my sample CD's. I make tribal/tech/house and I use alot of percussion. What type of music do you make or want to make?

    Unhappy

Thanks again man for the consideration...

I dunno Ive been pluggin like a drum n bass beat or a basic hip hop 4count into the redrum,

what I mean by sequencing (if not the correct term) I mean taking the different patterns, and playing them at specific times, with fill ins beat changes etc.

On the startup demo, I notice what looks like a White rectangle at the bottom which contains smALLER different colored little rectangles which seem to be the other instruments, drums as well? all placed in their respective time allotments...

My question is to something of that nature, using the drum patterns to change the beat and even percussion instruments for set period of time.

I record stuff w/ Cool edit, the last time I used a Beat making program was Fruity loops back in the day, I think FL may have corrupted my understanding of reason, but if anyone can offer a tip or some advice, I would really be thankful...

First, a couple of questions ..

Have you read the manual? It's all explained in rather explicit detail there. There are also PDF manuals installed inside your Reason manual that you can do specific word searches in.

As for the tutorials - pardon me if I seem like I'm questioning too much, but right there on the page I directed you to, the 2nd headline is 'More Tutorials'. It's in red, just like the first headline. Right below it is a link to the 'Articles' section. Just click on that link.

    What up CC,
The big white square you are talkin about is the Reason Sequencer. All the other little squares you are referring to are the measures of each track. I guess I could explain to you how I do my tracks and you could figure out your way. First create a mixer, then create a redrum computer. Puch in the patterns that you like and when you have a good arrangement of drums, change the sequencer to edit view. This will allow you to punch in the the sounds exactly like you had in the redrum computer. I use all 1/16 notes with the drums. You might need to zoom in to get the the see the full 16 slots for each measure. After you've got this complete change to arrange view. this will give you the little square you were talking about. All you have to do is copy and paste. Paste until the end of your song. Then you can edit the measures idividually in the edit view. just scroll to a desired measure and erase the sounds you punched in for a certain drum. For me I find it easier to work with a loop of about two measures. I get all my tracks together; drums, bass, synth, sample, and then copy the entire set of tracks and paste. Then just delete were you don't want a particular track, in the arrange view. To switch between the edit and arrange view just click on the little set of colored bars all the way to the left in your sequencer. Another thing that you need to do is, when your done copying and pasting the drum tracks you need to turn off the enable pattern on the drum machine itself. this way you won't have the machine playing on top of your drums that you punched in on the sequencer. it will sound like the drums are played double or the velocity will be really high. This is just how I do it. there might be an easier way but this works for me. Hope you understand this or hope I helped you out in some way. Later

It didn't take me long to learn the basics of the thing, just keep playing with it, trying out and seeing what each unit does.
I didn't have much experience with using real effects units & samplers, so I had to learn it in Reason.
Really, though, when you get a MIDI controller keyboard, get a good one. I have a Korg Triton LE, and I can tell you, it is worth it.

    Thumbs up

Yeah guys, I was a little lazy, but I just want to thank everybody for their input.

I've been playing around with the program, and Im starting to get comfortable with the all the right clicking and cutting and pasting and stuff...Finally! sheet....

Has any one ever noticed how annying the "automization" track can be for the redrum? Seems like once you dram a pattern, you cant alter it if u mess up. Is this right? Any tips on drum automization?

Thanks again all, this prog. is off the hook....

Automation is explained very clearly in the manual - you DO have a manual, yes?
