    Logic RPC VM3100 Pro

Is there anyone who has this system and have it running? I can get the VM3100 Pro to work as a Mixer but it won't communicate with the Logic RPC software. I have Windows 98 SE 384MB RAM and 20 GB ATA 100 HD. The ASIO drivers are setup as per the video. I also can't get the VM3100 Pro to change its {AUDIO CH] button to change from red to green or get it to recognize the TR01-TR8 inputs. It will do the IN01-IN12. I can choose (FX/MON) and (BUS) but not (TRK) any suggestions?
    Thanks

I'd call Roland support; this might be either re-initializing the VM mixer (try 1st) or your VM software version (had to download an update to mine to interface with a VSR880) to a repair of the VM mixer. (ie: no red/green audio channel lights).

Hey arcus2001, try this. Disconnect the RPC cable between your mixer and computer. See if you can get to change AUDIO CH pushbutton to switch colors on the mixer. If you can it may be the cable or the PCI card may not be seated properly.

Are you using the cable supplied with the package? I know it's pretty short. Be careful not to use a standard RS-232C cable. I compared the RPC cable to an RS-232C with a multimeter yesterday and they are very different.

I just got the Studio Pack myself a few days ago. It sounds like you and I are around the same spot in the learning curve. Feel free to correspond with me at anytime.

How is the Logic RPC software? I've heard it's comparable to MicroLogic except that it's 24 tracks and 24 bit rather than 16bit.

Has anyone been able to effectively and efficiently use the VM3100 to control Logic RPC via MIDI? It sounds like a terrific setup...if it works. I'm interested in it, but skeptical. If anyone is using it and enjoying it, please enlighten.

I'm debating between the Roland Studio Pack, the Tascam US-428, or the Digi 001. I still think about the MOTU 1224 system every once in a while but all I ever hear about it is "my PCI card doesn't work," and "MOTU won't answer my calls." Not my style.

BTW, are the converters on the VM3100pro and the preamps of "acceptable" quality for someone who wants to produce demos for now?

    Thanks for the help.

    Hey Chris,

I've also picked up a VSR 880... And likewise had to install the OS upgrade to get the Playlists and Overviews from the VSR to Logic (although the mixer settings were being sent and MMC and sync worked before the upgrade).

It seems as though everything is working as it should. I can cut, paste, drag, copy, regions on the overview, but I can't "HEAR" what I'm editing. I would expect that the audio editing tools in logic would let you scrub or solo VSR Tracks while editing. I don't expect full sample editing support because the audio is actually on the VSR Hard drive, but I do think there's something amiss if I can't hear playback from the VSR while I'm editing the overviews.

    Am I missing something here?

    Any solutions?

    Thanks,

    Steve
