TLM103 - Do you own one? What do you use it for?

I'm just going to throw up a bunch of topics of different microphones. If you own one, please reply! The best way to get information and opinions around is for everyone to chime in!

    Thanx!

It's a workhorse in my studio. I own two so I use them as OHs often. Yeah, I know a lot of people prefer small cap mics as OHs but try it, you may like it. Vocals, obviously. Also have used one in a kick drum tunnel that sounded good.

If I can't find a vintage u87 for about 1,300 - 1,400 I am thinking of getting the tlm 103 only because I am also planning to buy the avalon 737. I have heard the combo and it sounds sweet.

I used a TLM103 for quite a while to record a center channel for solo fingerstyle acoustic guitar. I liked it. I've since upgraded to a better mic, a Microtech Gefell UMT 800. Nonetheless, the 103 is a very good mic and can be found for a decent price on eBay. Get the shockmount, you'll need it.

I have a TLM 193 (not the 103) and the Avalon 737. That combo works great on vocals and acoustic guitars.

Of all the dumb mics out there... I actually get a good sound using an Oktava MK219 on electric guitar with the Avalon. Go figure eh?

    If I had a 2nd 193, and 2nd 737, I'd try that out as overheads as well.

The 193's have a very smooth sound, good detail, but aren't excessively bright. For my voice, I actually have to boost the highs in the Avalon EQ to get the air I want. Sounds good though!

I use it for vocals and it is superb. I also use it for drum room pickup, even though it is cardioid. I have used it to record a solo cello and it seems like it was made for it. I haven't found anything that sounds bad through it.
