    Files and Partitions in Sonar

I have Sonar 1.31 and an 80G hard drive
I created three partitions with Partition Magic. C=30gig E=40 gig F=6.5gig I have everything on my C drive now. I was wondering what files should I place where for 1.performance 2. safety/backup. Anyone have any strategies or examples that have worked for you? Any input would be appreciated.
    thanks

First you need to upgrade to Sonar 2 which let's you use project folders ( I don't think 1 does ). Then you should never put anything important on C:, and you should put your audio on a DRIVE with no programs running from it while you're using it for audio.

Thanks DK. I suspected as much.
1.31 allows you to setup the folders/sub folders that Sonar sends various file types to under global options. Project folders may be a different isssue. I can get Sonar to send various file types to my E drive, though.

For performance, I think what DK was saying was that you should use another, separate physical audio drive, not just a logical one using partition magic since C, E, and F are all on the same drive.

For safety/backup, at the minimum you should have a copy of every project (at least the ones you value) on a different physical drive (again logical is not good enough) in your PC. Better would be a different PC altogether or some other form of backup media (CDR, CDRW, tape etc.)

I use a 40 GB Maxstor audio drive separate from my apps drive. I have a smaller 10 GB partition that I use for my active projects (better disk performance, faster defrag etc.), and the other 30 GB partition for backup/archive storage. When I want to work on a project, I just copy it over to the 10 gig partition and load it into Sonar from there. I also backup my projects to a couple of 5400 rpm 20 GB drives in removable drive bays in case the Maxstor crashes.
