    nforce2 chipset questions

    Hey there,
I'm new to this forum, but I'm hoping you might be able to help me out. My MB dumped on me a week ago and I had to replace it. Not having researched it before I purchased my new board, I mistakenly bought one with a VIA chipset. I couldn't figure out why my audio suddenly became such a nightmare, but thanks to this forum, I see VIA should ahve been avoided. I'm considering a couple of board with the nforce2 chipset, but I haven't heard from many actual users of this chipset. Can anyone tell me if the nforce2 is the best thing on the market now... is there better? Also, is anyone using an ABIT NF7S, or an ASUS A7N8X? If so, what do think of them?

I would say there are more success stories of the other nforce chipsets than the one you talk of. Again just like you going by other peoples stories. I have a A7N266-VE and it's been rock solid. Though I would go with the ATX form factor version next time, even though I don't use all PCI slots.

Your power supply also might have done something to do with your mobo's failure. A bad power supply is known to suddenly reduce a mobo to nil. Espcecially mobo's that run extra PCI devices and harddrives (which do draw more power, such as DAW's) For now enermax or antec (keep forgetting the other quality brands but research)

    ForeverYoung:

I recently built a system with the ASUS A7N8X Deluxe. Now that I've got everything set up correctly, I'm very happy with it - it's the first stable DAW I've ever had. My Terratec soundcard's drivers wouldn't happily coexist with the motherboard's built-in nVidia audio processor, but everything's been stable now that I've disabled the nVidia processor and mapped everything through the Terratec. Given my past history, I would guess this is more of an issue with Terratec than the motherboard.

FYI for compatibility, I'm using the Matrox G450 video card, Terratec EWS88MT, and an Athlon XP2000+.

I haven't seen a lot of info about Nforce2 boards which is surprising considering the buzz they made before they were finally released. I'm hoping it's 'cause they've been trouble-free for those using them like me! There was some concern a few wks ago about Nforce2/Non 8x AGP compatablilty when used w/pro-audio cards. But I & some other users on the forum are using the A7n8x with a matrox g450 4x AGP w/out any problems.

I must say that I'm not using Win XP yet. Pkg just came today. Win98 still installed.

    Hope that helps.

ASUS A7n8x delux, using onboad Nvidia LAN
    Athalon 2100+ XP

2x 80 GB Western Digital 8 MB cache
    Liteon 48x24x48
    Antec 430w PSU
St Audio M-port 8 in 8 out soundcard
    Matrox G450 4x AGP dual

I recently built a new PC with a nForce 2 MoBo (Asus A7N8X) and it is smmmmokin'. I have yet to get an audio card for it. I'm waiting for my tax refund to get a basic card (which I'm still torn because I still can't decide which interface to get. SOOOO many choices...so confusing).

But I will definitely let you know how it goes.
