So, I'm about to pounce and buy an Apogee Symphony I/O with the 2 in 6 out card. Almost everything I record is no more than two channels, so I thought I'd splurge on those two. But I do have occasion to record drums and thus leveraging the Symphony plus my ol' standby MOTU 896HD. Here's I propose to use them together, please advise if this is not technically feasible, or if there's a better way:
Have Symphony's two analog inputs Lightpipe (or maybe AES) out into the 896HD, but have the Symphony's Word Clock be the master and MOTU's the slave.
This way, I should be able to leverage the eight MOTU channels, which should sound clearer using the Symphony's superior word clock, and have two boutique channels of A/D through the Symphony which then pass unmolested through the 896HD digitally.
