need advice on snare drum purchase

I am trying to get less snare noise and more tom out of a snare
i now have a pearl session 5x14 maple shell (too much snare for me)
i dont care how much i need to spend how do get more or a tom sound out of a snare?
what type of wood? dimensions?

I use a maple 10-ply14x10 snare with diecast hoops. I ordered the parts online and put it together. It's very Tom-like. Additionally, I put a coated head snare side to lessen the response if needed.

It's plenty deep, and when tuned a little less than medium, gives a really warm tone and a Tom like response.
