    MOTU 828mkII Firmware Upgrade

Anyone know how to update the firmware? I downloaded the file "828v105" from the MOTU web site but when I run the installer it says to "Please turn on the device while holding down the Page knob". There is no page knob on the 828mkII so I'm at a loss.

    Thanks in advance.

press the "Cursor" button while powering on to enter Firmware Upgrade mode.

Where did you find the 828v105 file? I've looked all over the site and can't find it.

Any chance you could email it to me if I gave you my address?

I've been looking all over the place for a firmware update as well, and I can't find anything. Do you know where I could find this file? Or if not, any chance I could get you to email it to me? The problems with my 828mk2 have brought the final mixdown of my band's album to a screeching halt, and we really need to get this done.

    Thanks!

    oh sweet!

I suspect the 828 is responsible for a recent plague of firewire issues in my rig

    hey man

thanks for sending that to me

    however

you sent me the firmware updater for the 828mk3

folks this is not a firmware updater for the 828mkII

(this is why you can't find the "page" knob)

Oh ok, I was wondering because I couldn't find the 828 updater anywhere...I'm don't think one exists.

After fiddling around with it (moving the power switch from 115 to 220 and back, starting up in Firmware Upgrade mode a few times then restarting, holding in the volume button while restarting, etc.) I was finally able to boot in standalone mode, do the System Defaults restore, and get my 828mkII working with my G5 again....for a few days.

Now I'm back where I started with the same issue. I've already contacted MOTU and they inform me that they can issue an RMA and repair the unit.....for $99. I really don't see how that's fair, as I've already paid for the unit and this definitely seems to be some sort of defect. Didn't think paying extra to get a unit to do what it's supposed to do was legal, but I'm stuck. I too am right in the middle of a project and need this fixed asap. Luckily I'm in Boston and MOTU is right in Cambridge so I'm going to just drop it off over there.

I think anyone having this problem should contact MOTU. See what they say they're going to charge then post it here. Maybe we can apply some group pressure to get the price down.

    Keep me posted.

I fixed mine last night by using a shorter firewire cable

all of my problems started when i added another pair of firewire drives.

Compared to usb, firewire400 has a pretty short maximum cable length, and despite how many firewire ports you have on your computer, chances are they're all the same bus. So you pretty much have to check the length of all the firewire cables and add them up.

I think my total cable length ended up around 15 feet
