Question Need help finding a mixer

Short story: I've looked around but the best I can find without buying a full blown mixer is 8 mic/instrument inputs. What I need is something with at least 12 inputs that I can edit later in the software. Any suggestions?

    Long story:
I've been doing some home recording for a while now, mostly acoustic and vocals. Recently several people have asked me to help them get themselves/their band recorded. All I have at the moment is an analog mixer for live use and a Presonus Audiobox usb with only 2 inputs. I can use this combo to record up to 24 mic/instruments but I'd rather have something with more control in the software.

    Need:
    10 mic/instrument inputs(minimum)
    Portability
    Firewire digital out

    Welcome to the forum!

There are a couple mixers you might want to look at that fit your needs. If you could get by with only eight mic preamps, and eight more line inputs, Mackie's Onyx 1620i would work out well for you. If you'd need at least twelve mic inputs their Onyx 1640i would be a better choice. It has the added advantage of being able to bring all sixteen channels back through the mixer if you wanted to mix analog instead of in software.

Those are both analog mixers with digital outputs...if you'd want to look at a digital mixer as well Presonus's Studio Live 1602 (or one of its bigger brothers) would be a good choice.

The 16.0.2 is a good choice for fulfilling the OP's parameters. I am kind of confused, however, over whether the OP does or does not want a mixer form-factor.

If it's a want, then the Studio Live is, really, the only game in town at the price vs feature comparison. If not, there are plenty of interfaces that can be paired with preamps via ADAT to expand their input count. Some have decent built-in mixing.
