I'm planning on getting either the digi 003 or the digi 003+ and I was looking at the ADAT feature to get more inputs for bigger band recordings. My question is, if I get a preamp such as the focusrite octopre and hook it up to the digi 003 what happens exactly (details will be much appreciated)? Does it negate the 4 preamps on the digi 003 and use the octopre's preamp's on all the channels? Same question with the 003+. Basically, if I was going to go down this route in the future, should I still get the 003+ because of the extra preamps, or will the octopre negate it and have no difference compared to the 003. Sorry, if this is a dumb question I'm just getting into protools and hardware after being an "In the box" Ableton user for the past year and I want to do this right!
Thanks!
On the 003, the ADAT channels are 9-16, while the built-in preamps and/or analog line inputs operate on channels 1-8. So the OctoPre or similar on the ADAT inputs would add inputs, not replace the existing.
