    voice over mike choice

Comments welcome on choice of VO mike

My current mike routes thru a CENTRANCE preamp and USB entry to pc

I love this mike but it is multi directional so it can, at times, pick up loud noises outside the recording area

One comment I saw on a forum mentioned use of a Sennheiser but did not mention model

I send clean voice to my client who then does the magic with the mix. With new gigs due I am also on the learning curve to add, choose further facilities to my own recording resources and am facing the wall of knowledge needed re choice of which hardware and or software devices. I used to work as a TV studio engineer for a broadcaster so not unfamiliar with this but woah things have really moved on

    Thanks

There is a reason that Shure SM-7, Electrovoice RE-20 and Sennheiser MD-421 mics have been the staple of radio stations for voice overs for about 50 years....
They are flattering, do not color with room ambiance and are good at rejecting exterior noises.
    They are still staples.

If you've got a really good treated quiet room a large-diameter condenser vocal mic
(a U-87 type) sounds wonderful but one of the big-3 dynamic mics is more practical.
