I am using the m-audio fast track pro and when I monitor the signal from the mics going in it sounds great. But when I turn the knob to monitor the audio coming back from Protools it sounds awful. And that is what is being recording. Any ideas?

Could you explain further about the sound being bad? There are many clues in what is going on with the sound as to what is going on.

When the knob is turned to the input monitoring it sounds good, but the playback monitoring sounds like there's a slight high pass filter on it. And there are no effects or EQ's in being used in the DAW. Best way I can describe it is instead of a my nice warm tube amp sound the signal sounds more like I plugged straight into a cheap multi effects pedal from the 90's with no amp modeling, if that makes any sense.
