Anyone need to run Midi signals beyond 50ft?

    Check out www.midiextender.com

The Midi-1001 will extend signals up to 1000ft!

That's great, but why not just eliminate the need for the second box and go ethernet direct into the computer? MIDI over Ethernet.

Would be great agreed! At this point the second "box"(tranceiver) is needed to convert the midi signals from the second "midi device".... (ex. hardware sequencer with midi in and out) in order to run midi over the Cat 5 cable for extension.

    long distance MIDI

MIDI over fiber optic cable can be sent up to a mile where as MIDI over Cat5 1000ft. When would you need this?
