I plan to use a Mackie 1400i amp to run my monitor setup. One channel would run 4 speakers @ 2 ohms while the other side would run just one speaker @ 8 ohms. The 4 speakers would be the front line monitors while the single would be a separate mix for the drummer. Does anyone know if running this amp with 2 different loads will cause any problems? Or does anyone have any suggestions for a different setup. I have 2 aux sends from my board and only 1 amp to use for now.
So long as the load on any given channel is within the manufacturer's recommendations, the amp does not care whether the loads are matched or heavily mismatched.
The amp is rated at 630 watts per channel with a 2 ohm load. If I run 4 speakers rated at 8 ohms each I get a total load of 2 ohms. Does this then mean that each speaker would be putting out 157.5 watts?
Please excuse me if my terminology is not correct but I think you get the idea of my question.
