Logic Pro 9 on a MacBook Pro 13"?

Hello,
Lately I have been looking at purchasing a new MacBook Pro. I really desire to get the 13" with the 2.66gHZ Core 2 Duo. But just wondering if I will be able to run Logic Pro 9 on it with no latency issues. And if so, would the 15" i5 be a better choice?

I was at a music store, and I opened logic on a 3.6Ghz Intel Imac. It ran fine, although I didn't really do much with it. My advice would be to either#1 get the fastest macbook available, or#2 get a macbook Pro with the fastest core 2duo processor.

Latency is going to have a lot more to do with what your hard drive, RAM, and frontside buss speeds look like than it will the processor. Unless you're bogging it down with a lot of plug-ins or instruments and need to trade off larger buffers for more CPU overhead.

Any native system regardless of processor will exhibit some level of throughput latency, which is most noticeable when tracking audio or playing virtual instruments. With virtual instruments, a sample buffer of 64 or even 128 samples is workable. For tracking, even monitoring through software at 64 samples is problematic- using an interface with hardware patch-through or cue mixing or an outboard mixer is really the way to go.

Logic will run just fine on a 13" MacBook Pro, although I second the suggestion to go for as much processor as you can get, and I wouldn't want to have to do too much editing or multi-window work on a 13" display. Also you will absolutely need an external FireWire drive to record to, and max out the RAM to 8 GB on the MacBook.

I wouldn't suggest the 13" MBP for any Pro Audio. They actually are very good at mixing, leaving the buffer up to 1024. But when you're tracking, it's hard to keep the buffer down without running into problems when your session gets a handful of tracks on it when some have VIs and guitar sims running.

Apple don't make Physical quad core processors for their notebooks. The only difference between the core 2 duo processors and the i5/i7 is that the i5/i7 processor will run 4 virtual cores, while the core 2 duos will run 2 cores. No more, no less. As I have said in the past, the speed difference between the core 2 duo and the i5 was only 1 second's time when opening garage band.

BTW Since you want this macBook to run logic, you may want to wait until logic 10 comes out and see what the minimum requirements are.

You could be waiting a long time. No one knows when "Logic 10" will ship, I haven't even seen a rumor about it.

My recommendation is and always has been to buy what works for you now at the best price you can get today. FWIW, I'm still on Logic Studio with version 8. I'd like version 9, but I don't use it enough to justify the expense. The "latest and greatest" isn't always necessary.

I do however, suggest to "Joe Muscara", that you make use of google and search "Logic 10". The rumors of logic studio 10 are there, you just have to find them. As for the release date, I don't think you will be waiting a long time. Logic studio 10 may actually be out some time this year. Those are great threads. I've never seen rumors about an Apple release that were so reliable as what was in those two threads. You're right, looks like 10 will be any day now, perhaps even yesterday or last year...

Here's the new Macbook Pro! It'll handle any and all of your needs! The Dual core i5 is now standard, but get this: there are actualy real quad core processors available. I think that a 13' Macbook Pro would be sufficient to run logic 9, but one of the new quad core's would be better. I still advise a 15 inch with a quad core and 8 Gbs of Ram.
