My EVH wolfgang is very hard to make the bridge pup come up more. No matter what I do to the screws and spring it won't rise???

Does the PU on that guitar mount into a ring? or directly into the wood?
directly into the wood.
the only thing I can think of is to either:
A. use longer springs or rubber tubing and longer screws.
B. you could mount a pickup ring and that would give you about 1/4" right off the bat...but I think you'll run into the problem of it being too high at that point.
I'd try A first...anybody else have an idea?
well i'll try to get longer screws. I have never had this happen before. What do you mean rubber tubing?? Use that instead of screws??
some guitars use rubber tubing (about 1/8") instead of springs for pickup mounting.
yeah I hate those springs. They are hard to work with. What type of tubing would you suggest I try??
cool thanx. Someone on evh.com suggested putting a piece of soild foam rubber under the pickup to raise it with out using spring or tubing. what do you think?
I think this works best - the foam provides the most stable base. I save foam from packing for just this purpose. The foam should be fairly firm and not the soft wimpy stuff.Originally Posted by ripper6192008

Practice + experience = tone
I've read that the EVH guitars are made to a spec where you shouldn't have that problem. I think the Sweetwater catalog says something about 'hard-mounted' pups or something.
When you posted about the action and the buzz I assumed that the strings were nice and low. Although it means tweaking the bridge and possibly neck again I would suggest trying to lower the strings rather than raise the pups. Can you measure the distance from the high 'E' string to the pole piece and then the low 'E' as well? Fender or Peavey should have suggested spacings. Of course, your ear is the most important tool but, from what I've read on the EVH, it's made a little differently.
"hard mounting" simply means mounted directly into the body without need for a pickup bracket or mounting through a pickguard. Height adjustment is still possible. Another thing to consider...if you get the pickup too high...you'll definitely run into the problem of the strings actually touching the pickup when you play higher on the neck. I'm not really sure what the goal is here. Are you looking for more gain? These pickups are pretty hot. You should be able to have them up to 1/4" under the strings and they'd still be smoking![]()
ok thanx that will help out alot.
I forgot to mention that when you measure the distance from the pups to the strings you should fret the highest fret (22nd, 24th or whatever).
RW, I'll read the catalog again. I'm pretty sure that the description indicated a specific feature in addition to hard-mounting the pups. I'll get back with you. Also, to your knowledge, is "hard-mounted" just another term for "body-mounted?" I've always used the latter.
