Yes, you can. Also, after mixdown, the 2488 neo also has a mastering function as well. Dollar for dollar, it's an excellent portable mini-studio.

There are 2 effects processors on the unit. The first is a multi-effects processor that you can apply to any channel on the way in. It prints the effect to the track as you record. You assign it to one of the inputs. Or you can bounce out one of the outputs back into the unit if you choose. The second effect is a room simulator that is applied to all channels via an effects buss. It is used for room reverb vocal effects etc. The multi effects processor includes guitar, Bass, Vocal and Drum effects. In addition there is per channel EQ and a multi-band dynamics processor for mastering. I hope this helps.
sample rate * bit depth * channels = bits per second
multiply that by 60 for bits per minute, and multiply that by 60 for bits per hour
then divide that by 8 to find bytes per time, and divide that by 1024 to find kb per time, and divide that by 1024 to find mb per time (and divide that by 1024 to find gb per time)
example:
44100 hz * 16 bit * 24 trk * 60 / 8 / 1024 / 1024 = 121 MB per minute
ps. 1024 is used by most (all?) operating systems to calculate prefixes but 1000 is used by hard disk manufacturers. this is why operating systems report hard disk sizes as less than what the marketing material states.
Yes. I would refer you to the sections of the manual involving saving scenes and backing up. Given that you seem to want to save all scenes, which increases file size, consider using another storage device (thumb drive or larger USB driven device) rather than CD to retain this data. You can then either keep a mastered version of your tune on the neo, stripped of all scenes, or delete the tune altogether.
You also need to keep in mind that saving the raw data is not playable as a CD, but is stored in Tascam's proprietary format. It would need to be imported into the neo for additonal scenes to be added or remixing and mastering.
Hope this helps.

Hello
My problem is simple, and I am sure the question has been asked by 9 out of 10 2488neo users. I just haven't found an answer. So here's the problem:
I am attempting to record a simple acoustic piece, using just two channels - one for vocals and one for guitar. Real basic stuff here. I want to add reverb and delay to the vocals, and a little reverb to the guitar - not AFTER, not during mixdown, but on the way IN, while RECORDING. I am very frustrated that something this simple seems impossible to figure out. At this point I'm considering going back to old-style recording - with cables, pre-amps, external effects, etc., As much set-up time as this would take, at least I'd be getting somewhere, rather than spending hours and days just trying to figure out how to use the neo's onboard effects.
Yes, you can do that. Go to the SEND function, highlight the channel you want the effect on, then on the Loop section, set the switch to PRE. That assigns the effect on the way in.
Hope that helps.

If anybody would like to hear what we did with the 2488 and cubase check out http://www.ad30.org or type in AD30 at Itunes for longer clips. It really is a great little machine but it has limited control over the individual tracks. The 2488 paired up with a nice DAW turns out some really nice stuff!!
Thanks for sharing. It's great

Hello -
I'm planning on trying a live studio recording, using all 4 of the Neo's XLR mic inputs at once. One mic is a condenser vocal mic, the other three are dynamic mics. The manual provides scary warnings about the incorrect use of the phantom power feature, so here's my question: How do I do a live recording using all the XLR inputs simultaneously when only one mic requires phantom power, and the other three do not. As far as I know, the phantom power is active across all 4 XLR inputs. If there is a procedure for isolating it to the one input that requires it, I haven't seen it mentioned in the manual. Also, I don't know if this matters or not, but I'll throw it out there just in case it's part of the answer: I don't know the difference between balanced and unbalanced mics or how/if this matters when using phantom power. All I know is that the condenser mic is an MXL and the dynamic mics are Sure SM 58s.

I've had the neo for about two weeks now and so far it's been real easy to use/learn. However, the neo manual claims to allow import of mono WAV files from a CD. When I tried to import a mono guitar WAV file I got the error - "Wrong type of CD. Check the disc." It's a standard CD-R. No alternatives are mentioned in the manual. I could play the CD through my system and go to an input that way but that defeats using the built-in CD drive which is supposed to send the data to a virtual track. Any help would be appreciated.
You can have the phantom power on all four mics. The dynamics don't care, it will not hurt them. MUTE OR PULL MASTER FADER DOWN WHEN APPLYING PHANTOM POWER!!! ALSO, DO NOT PLUG OR UNPLUG ANYTHING UNTIL YOU SHUT THE PHANTOM POWER OFF!!!! That's when the damage occurs. Did some great recording with the tascam check it out at http://ad30.org
