What Am I Missing?
So here is what we bought. . .
JBL MRX 528 dual sub cabs, with the MRX 515 mains sitting on top.
We power these with a Crown XTI2000 bridged on the mains to provide 1000 watts in each, and then a QSC PLX 3602 bridged on each Sub cab to provide 3600 watts in each. The only thing I have on this FOH set up is the DBX DriveRack PA, I use the RTA mic to EQ the room. Time is always limited for us and this seems to do a decent job.
I have a Yamaha MC166CX board and an Alesis 3630 com/lim/gate that I use for the kick drum. The onboard effects work fine for vocals, and 6 of the channels have Compressors that do a little good for vocals and guitars.
For Mic's I have sm58s (vocals) and beta57's(guitars) A Beta52, that I use in the port hole of the kick drum, and then a sm57 on the beater head to catch the high "slap" of the kick, when I blend these channels it sounds like a trigger. I run the Alesis 3630 on the beta 52 and sm57 on the kick.
We have spent a lot of $$ in the FOH system, so our monitor system lacks, BUT works fine for our band. We have Kustom KCM15 monitors that we power with a PV1500, and use a behringer EQ on.
Snake, cables, all 12-gauge for power, stands, ext....
We have had a lot of compliments already on how clean and crisp the system sounds. We want to start renting ourselves out locally to bar-bands and such to make a little more $$ to re-invest in new equipment. Any advice on what we are missing (other then better monitor speakers) or what we should look at getting next?
We are learning so much as we keep experimenting. There are so many different types of signal processing units out there that I don't understand. Any recommendations? Thanks!
