Hi, I'm new to this forum and I would like to know if anyone has had the chance to actually use the Yamaha MW 10. I'm considering in buying one soon so I can start learning the basics on recording, but I'm in a tight budget. And the few reviews I've read don't really help.
If it's anywhere as good as the MG10, you'll be very happy with it. As far as I can tell, the main difference is that the MW10 has a built in USB output and comes with Cubase LE and some other software. I connect my MG10 to a laptop using an Edirol UA-1EX and have been very happy with the mixer and the quality of the recordings.
The little Yamahas are terrific mixers and a great value. I'd say go for it!
Shaman... I have the MW12, and it is a fantastic mixer (even for it's relatively small size). I haven't checked out the MW10, but I am guessing it is basically identical, with a few less channels. The interface between mixer and computer (I am using a PC with Windows Vista) is almost plug and play. I say "almost" because you must follow the order listed in the users manual for plugging the USB cable in and opening Cubase. As long as you follow the instructions though, you should not have any problems. And even though the Cubase software that comes with it is not the full version, the LE version is still very good, and would probably be sufficient for even a small home studio. I have not had any problems with latency, but I have only used it to record single tracks from mic’ed acoustics and amps.
