Newbie - I want a USA F Jazz Bass

Any suggestions? I thought I'd get a new american F J bass for about $800.....do they still sound good as they used to ? Is it worth the money? Will it make me sound like Marcus Miller and / or Bob Dylan's b player??

thanks for any help, I'm a guitar player who needs to lay down a bottom occasionally

If buying a Fender Jazz bass could make people sound like Marcus Miller, we'd sure sell a lot of those babies! Seriously, he's one of those guys who will sound like himself no matter what he's playing - the magic is in his hands. Having said that, I've been quite impressed with the quality of the current American Fender instruments - definitely nicer than the post CBS 70's to late 80's guitars and basses they were making.
